Ways to demonstrate nondiscrimination and safe space practices:

1. Explicit nondiscrimination in hiring statement including the addition of ‘sexual orientation’ and ‘gender identity and expression’.

2. The display of pro-LGBTQ+ signage including flags, window clings, signs etc.

3. Staff training on how to handle anti-LGBTQ+ behavior from customers, managerial support for restriction and/or removal of customers who demonstrate repeated anti-LGBTQ+ behavior.

4. Demonstrated hiring and support of LGBTQ+ staff.

5. Inclusion of LGBTQ+ identities in business marketing, promotional materials, social media content.

6. Where possible, the use of gender neutral restrooms in addition to or instead of binary gendered restrooms.
